We want Musikfestwochen to be a festival where everyone feels comfortable and accepted. To provide you with a safe festival experience free from discrimination, we have developed an awareness policy. We are currently implementing the Bündner Standard (German) for preventing and responding to boundary violations.

Awareness = being mindful

For us, awareness means being mindful of situations in which someone’s boundaries are being or have been crossed. We want everyone to feel comfortable at our festival, regardless of skin colour, gender, origin, social background, sexual orientation, religion or other personal characteristics. Boundaries are very individual: Your personal boundaries are not necessarily the same as someone else’s. Everyone defines their own boundaries.

Nevertheless, behaviour that crosses boundaries is very common, especially at festivals where many people gather in a limited space. In a study by Züri schaut hin, 70% of people under the age of 36 said that they had experienced harassment or assault at a festival. That is why we must take responsibility, look out for one another and stand together against all forms of discrimination.

Awareness measures

Awareness Team

We have an Awareness Team at the festival. If you experience or witness someone’s boundaries being crossed, please contact the team. Its professionally trained members will listen to you and discuss the next steps with you. You can recognise the Awareness Team by their orange shirts. They move around the festival site throughout the event.

Awareness Point

There is now also an Awareness Point where you can always find a member of the Awareness Team. You are welcome to approach them at any time. You can also find out more about awareness and ask any questions you may have.

You can find the Awareness Point between Insieme and the accessible viewing platform at Steinberggasse 18.

Awareness Phone

You can reach the Awareness Team during festival opening hours on 077 452 35 35. Call or send us a message if you need help. We will come to wherever you are.

Safer Space

Do you need a quiet place to talk to our Awareness Team? We have a room outside the festival site where anyone affected can step away from the busy festival atmosphere and discuss the next steps in peace. You can then decide whether you would like to return to the festival or go straight home.

Digital Message Box

Situations in which boundaries are crossed can often feel overwhelming. Sometimes the person affected does not immediately realise that their boundaries have been crossed. At other times, talking about the incident as it happens may simply be too much.

If you would like to tell us about an experience or something you have witnessed in confidence, you can use our digital Awareness Message Box. It is checked regularly.

You can decide whether or not to provide your name. Your report will only be shared with the people responsible for awareness and the relevant member of the festival management team. You decide whether you want to take further action and what those steps should be. Your information will always be treated confidentially, and we will keep you informed at every stage. You always remain in control of how your experience is handled. We are here to support you.

One for all, all for one

Our festival site is large and can be difficult to keep track of when it is busy. Unfortunately, we cannot see everything. That is why we rely on everyone’s support.

Crossing someone’s boundaries can involve physical or psychological violence. However, it often happens quietly and out of sight. That is why everyone’s help is needed. We must look out for one another, respect each other’s boundaries and offer support.

What you can do:

- If your boundaries are crossed, speak to our Awareness Team. They will discuss the next steps with you.

- If you see someone’s boundaries being crossed, approach the person affected and ask how they are and how you can help. They may want someone to accompany them away from the festival site, talk to them or simply bring them some water. You could also go to the Awareness Team together. There is no single right response because everyone’s needs are different.

- Consent matters: Only yes means yes. If you are unsure, ask.

Our Awareness Team is supported and advised by Krisenintervention Schweiz and Fachstelle OKey. Thank you very much!

We would also like to thank Sinnesis for working with us to introduce the Bündner Standard in a cultural setting.
